THE SUGARLAND

Soft Finishes
2 Months

This living room is the central gathering spot for the family of four, and needed to be suitable for adult gatherings and family movie nights. An exceptionally long floor plan allowed us to design two seating spaces in one room, optimizing the use of the space. The room's white walls, paneling, and built-in bookcases were existing, and our clients wanted to keep the light and bright feel but add strong color and texture. We chose deep green and camel, then added black for depth and contrast. Textures like sisal, leather, linen, velvet, and mohair were strategically incorporated to bring warmth to the stark white room. We included both old and new pieces for a collected-over-time feel.

The bookshelves were a major focal point, and we wanted to incorporate family memorabilia but not look too cluttered, so we left plenty of places for the eye to rest among the vintage books, new art objects, and photo frames. We included an heirloom conductor's had the homeowner's vinyl record collection.
