THE CENTRAL

Hard Surfaces 2 Months

This kitchen renovation was a chapter in transformation. Located within a mid-century home that also serves as the creative headquarters for our studio, the kitchen needed to do more than function. It had to evolve into a central gathering place, a space that could anchor both family life and design work, hold chaos and calm, and support the fullness of daily living.

We had outgrown the original layout. It was too tight, too segmented, too out of sync with our daily needs. There wasn’t enough storage. The workflow made simple tasks feel complicated. Preparing meals, helping with homework, managing drop-offs and pick-ups—all of it felt like a squeeze. And though the utility room was incorporated into the kitchen for convenience, the aesthetic compromise was constant. It didn’t feel cohesive. It didn’t feel like home.

So we started over.

We hollowed out the space. Opened up the sightlines. Reimagined the kitchen as a living environment—a hub for nourishment, movement, and connection. Zones were clearly defined so multiple people could cook, unload groceries, or sit at the island without bumping elbows. Appliances were upgraded to support real, everyday cooking. We added a hot water dispenser for morning tea, RO filtered water for peace of mind, a high-powered vent hood that actually performs, and an electrical plan that works with us, not against us.
Storage was a priority. Custom in-drawer solutions keep things organized behind the scenes. And at the back door, individual cubbies give each family member a designated space to land. One of those small but powerful changes that makes daily life easier.

The utility room? It got a complete rework. Quieter. Smarter. Better integrated. No longer an afterthought, but part of a whole.

Every finish was chosen with care. A warm, neutral palette creates a sense of ease—inviting, flexible, and built to endure the beauty and the mess of real life. Honed quartzite adds quiet depth. Cabinetry is functional without feeling heavy. Lighting sets the tone, balancing clarity with softness a sculptural touch.
This space holds multitudes. It’s where ideas are born, meals are shared, and life happens—sometimes all at once!

It’s not just a kitchen. It’s the center of gravity.
